[25 years ago] KinKi Kids CD debut: "Garasu no Shonen"

KinKi Kids, the long-running duo Domoto Koichi (43) and Domoto Tsuyoshi (43), welcomed their 25th anniversary this year.

The pair released their debut single "Garasu no Shonen" (硝子の少年) on 21 July, 1997.

The track went on to sell more than a million on the Oricon chart, proving them as monster rookies on the ranking.

Domoto Koichi and Domoto Tsuyoshi had long been active as Johnny juniors before the single's release, headlining prime time hit J-dramas such as Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo, Wakaba no goro, Ginrou Kaiki File, Ningen Shikkaku and many more.

The PV of their hit debut single has been uploaded to their YouTube channel opened this year.

(In a different era, Johnny’s fans use to purchase VCDs/DVDs to watch PVs.)

 "Stay with Me"

The melody was composed by the famous Yamashita Tatsuro (Ride on Time) and the lyrics were written by Matsumoto Takashi who became a long-term collaborator with KinKi Kids.

The choreography was not featured in the PV but the nostalgic blue aesthetic and melody (which was also considered nostalgic sounding even back in 1997) sure brought many memories for long time loyal fans.

While both Domoto Koichi and Domoto Tsuyoshi have been busy with their own solo activities, they have also been active with their work as a duo.

Recently, to commemorate their 25th year since CD debut, KinKi Kids have also held a campaign to offering to be featured in CM endorsements for only 25 yen, with the heartwarming efforts and process detailed on their YouTube channel.
