Which one gives you the greatest autumny feels?
Do you like Brahms? (2020) - SBS
Starring Park Eun Bin and Kim Min Jae as a violinist and pianist finding their dreams and goals while approaching 30, this drama is quiet on the surface but lets the strength of its characters shine through in the best way possible.
It explored the themes of growth and finding a dream that suits you - about pursuing dreams and what it means when you may not have what it takes to reach them. This seem to have resonated with many viewers who joined the characters’ journey and found some form of encouragement and comfort through it.
The
main couple's great chemistry was also a draw for the drama and Park
Eun Bin and Kim Min Jae went on to win the Best Couple Award at the SBS Drama Awards in that year.
A melodrama that holds a special spot among fans, Park Eun Bin even stated that she hopes fans (“danwons” – aka orchestra members) of the drama will think of the drama every time fall comes.
Extraordinary You (2019) - MBC
While not fully set in autumn, this fantasy youth drama set in a manhwa world does have many scenes featuring beautiful autumn leaves.
Starring Kim Hye Yoon as Dan-oh, our heroine who realizes she is a mere side character slated for illness and possibly death in a manhwa world. This drama contains comedy, philosophical questions as well as heartwarming scenes, especially as Dan-oh tries her hardest to break away from the writer's planned fate for her.
Rowoon, in his first drama lead role, plays a character without a name and Lee Jae Wook plays an antagonistic character who finds his fate entangled in many messy ways with the duo. Extraordinary You's young stars also included Kim Young-dae before he moved on to makjang PentHouse fame.
The
drama also boasts absolutely beautiful cinematography and camera cuts
and delivers the complicated lore in a well-executed way.
If a high school drama set in a fantasy manhwa world with interesting lore is something up your alley, do check this drama out!
Bonus: Check out Rowoon performing a cover of the drama's OST!
Autumn in my Heart (2000) - KBS
The first work from the season drama series, the drama starred a young Song
Hye Kyo, along with Song Seung-Heon and Won Bin, now all A-listers in their own
rights (and also a young Moon Geun-young acting as Song Hye Kyo's younger self.)
This classic was a prototype of the sad, wistful melodramas that followed in and early 2000s and was one of the first few dramas to spark the Hallyu across the rest of Asia.
Featuring a pair star-cross lovers with a cruel fate awaiting (a pair of non-siblings and illness threatening to tear our main couple apart), this drama does feature many tropes that we no longer see in dramas today.
The OST also matched the tone of the drama perfectly as well!
We are sure many early K-drama fans would still remember the tunes in their head!
Goblin (2016) - tvN
Last but not least, we cannot leave out this hit masterpiece, starring Kim Go-eun and the Goblin himself, Gong Yoo. With a beautiful lore and wonderfully written side characters played by Lee Dong Wook, Yoo Inna and Yook Sungjae, the drama featured a memorable OST and beautiful cinematography.
The drama is definitely one that is re-watched by many, with its beauty and wistfulness making fans come back for seconds.
We are sure there are many more dramas that fit the theme, so we might come back to this next time.
